Determining the ring size

Buying a ring brings with it several issues to think about. Of course, choosing a particular model, among the many ring designs, is one of them. Sometimes deciding what ring to buy can be difficult on its own, but we know from experience that by far the bigger challenge can be determining the size of the ring. Especially if the ring is bought in secret, such as with an engagement or gift in mind. In that case, you usually have to approach the matter discreetly, so as not to betray your intentions to your beloved. Of course, if you are buying a ring for yourself, the issue of size is just as important so regardless of your intentions ora the reason, here are some proven ways to tell you how to measure your ring size.

Methods of measuring ring size

We give you methods when you have the right ring and need to check the size, and one foolproof method when you secretly check the ring size.

1. Visit to the jeweller

The best surest way is to check the size of the ring at a jeweler. If you have a ring that corresponds to the size of the finger on which the new ring will be worn, go to the jeweler and ask him to measure the ring on the jeweler's pin. In addition to the size of the ring, find out what inner diameter it corresponds to, this will help you when shopping for a ring online. When you do not have a ring from which you can take the measurement, then measure the rings in the store and determine the size based on the one that fits best on your finger.

2. Measure the inner diameter of the ring with a ruler

This is a very simple method, however, it is important that the ring has a perfectly round shape, measure the ring at the widest point, to be sure, compare the measurement by measuring it from at least two perspectives, both values must be the same.

3. Measure the ring with the caliper

Measuring with this tool will allow you to accurately determine the inner diameter of the ring to the millimeter. As in the situation with a ruler, keep in mind that the ring must be round, not flattened under any circumstances. Measure the ring in two places, at the widest point of the circle. Remember also that it must be a ring that the woman wears exactly on the same square for which the new ring is intended. That is, for example, if it is an engagement ring, the ring on which you learn the size must be worn on the heart finger of the right hand.

4. Measure your finger with a thread

When you do not have a ring on which you can determine the size, then use thread or thin ribbon. Gently wrap the thread around the finger at its widest part, that is, at the knuckle. Cut off or mark the place where the thread exactly wraps the finger, measure the resulting length. Then you need to calculate the diameter from the circumference, but don't worry it is very easy and you probably remember it from school. Divide the value of the length of the thread in mm by 3.14, then you will get the diameter of the ring and you are done.

Now all you have to do is match the size to the value you calculated

A few important things you need to know to choose the right ring size

  • Each finger is a different size, and the fingers of the right hand are different from those of the left.
  • Fingers change size throughout the day due to temperature, physical activity, or health. Finger size can change by up to two ring sizes.
  • Measure your finger in the morning and evening to ensure your hands are in their most natural shape.
  • If you're measuring from a ring, remember that the ring must be worn on the same finger.
  • The ring you're measuring with must maintain its round shape.
  • When buying wedding rings, it's worth choosing a slightly looser band or one size larger.
  • The most common engagement ring size is 12-14.

  • When measuring your finger, remember to take into account the width of your knuckle. The ring and band should pass over the joint (knuckle) with slight resistance.
